Front End and Backend
This site has a custom front end, but the backend remains WordPress.
That means you can still use standard WordPress tools for things like:
- creating and editing posts
- uploading media
- setting or changing featured images
- editing your user profile
The custom site interface is where collections and curation come in.
You do not need to use every part of WordPress to enjoy the site, but it is there when you need it.
How It Works
Posts are the individual things you save.
A post can be a single image, multiple images, text, music, video, a link, or a mix of media.
Collections are groups of posts arranged together.
A collection can hold up to 24 posts.
Creating Posts
Posts are created through the standard WordPress editor.
That includes:
- image posts
- text posts
- posts with multiple images
- mixed-media posts
You can assign tags, categories, and collections to a post in the editor through the post settings panel. Tags and categories are shared sitewide, while collections belong to you. You do not need to use any of them to publish a post. Once published, a post can still be added to one or more collections through the site’s custom collection tools.
In other words: WordPress handles post creation, while the site’s custom interface handles collecting, arranging, styling, and sharing.
Two Ways to Start
There are two easy ways to begin.
Start with a post
Create a post in WordPress, then add it to a collection later.
Start with a collection
Create an empty collection first, then fill it over time.
A collection can include:
- your own posts
- existing posts from around the site
- other people’s posts
That means collections are not just for your own uploads — they can also be used for curation.
Adding Posts to a Collection
There are a few ways to add posts to a collection.
You can:
- add a new post to a collection during creation
- add a previously published post to one of your collections
Existing posts can be added in two main places:
- through the popup plus button that appears when hovering over a post preview
- through the Manage Collections area in an individual post view
So you can build a collection either from the collection side or from the post side.
How Post Previews Work
Each post has a preview, which is how it appears in grids, lists, and collections.
For image-based posts, the preview usually uses the post’s featured image.
If your post contains images, a featured image is usually selected automatically unless you choose one yourself manually.
This matters because a post preview usually shows one representative image, not every image or piece of media inside the post.
When someone opens the full post, they can see the rest of the content there.
Text post previews
Text posts work a little differently.
If a text post does not have a featured image, its preview will usually display text instead.
If you assign a featured image to a text post, the preview may use that image instead.
So the preview depends on the type of post and whether a featured image has been set.
Making a Collection
A collection is a group of posts gathered into one place.
Collections are where you build a mood, theme, archive, or visual idea. You can start with an empty collection and build into it over time, or make one once you already have posts ready to add.
A collection can hold up to 24 posts.
Styling a Collection
Once you’ve added posts, you can shape how the collection looks.
Styling a collection can include things like:
- arranging posts
- featuring certain items
- refining the overall visual feel
- adjusting the presentation until it feels complete
This is where a collection becomes more than a list of saved posts. It starts to read as a finished piece.
Sharing a Collection
When your collection is ready, you can share it by sending its link to someone else.
You can also keep collections for yourself as private references, working boards, or personal archives.
Using the Bookmarklet
The bookmarklet (accessible via the menu when logged in) is a quick-save tool for saving things while you browse the web.
Instead of copying links or reminding yourself to come back later, you can use the bookmarklet to send something directly into the site as a post.
This is especially useful for:
- images
- reference pages
- inspiration
- things you find quickly and do not want to lose
How to use it
- Add the bookmarklet to your browser’s bookmarks bar.
- Browse normally.
- When you find something you want to save, click the bookmarklet.
- Review what it pulls in.
- Save it as a post.
After that, you can leave it as its own post or add it to a collection later.
